Community Support Register

Ballarat & District Community Support Register (Now Closed)

The Ballarat & District Community Support Register (BDCSR) was a record of a person's details which where accessed in an emergency or for regular welfare checks by BDCSR volunteers.

During 2024, with changes to federally funded aged care programs, the need for the register was reduced. By December 2024, low registrations and a declining recipient list, resulted in the decision to close the register.

All clients were notified and client records were destroyed. If you have any questions, regarding the register please contact the BNC office.

History of the BDCSR

The BDCSR was initially managed by the Police Proactive Unit as a program of Neighbourhood Watch Ballarat to support residents in the Golden Plains Shire, the Pyrenees Shire and the City of Ballarat.

In 2019, when Neighbourhood Watch Ballarat ceased, the BDCSR transferred to the Ballarat Neighbourhood Centre.

The objectives of the BDCSR were:

  • To increase awareness of peoples own safety, security and sense of social inclusion in their own homes.
  • To enhance the feeling of security, confidence and sense of well-being and to minimise the concerns of family members for the welfare of their relatives.
  • To enhance proactive police initiatives such as community safety and to strengthen and encourage community networks.
  • To assist those residents needing help in times of community emergency.
  • To minimise the fear of crime and to create a closer community safety and crime prevention initiatives.
